Water, sanitation and hygiene
Water is central to humanity’s social and economic existence. Not having access to safe water therefore is a form of deprivation that threatens life, destroys opportunity and undermines human dignity. Most communities/people in eastern Uganda are largely faced with extreme poverty defined as the inability to access basic human needs notably food, clothing, housing, safe water and quality education and those in semi-urban areas live in non-permanent housing and suffer from poor drainage and sanitation. Availability of safe water in rural communities of Uganda is still a big challenge. In Uganda, national safe water coverage is estimated at 66% with 42% coverage in rural areas. Interventions in this area aim at supporting families in the targeted communities to improve their quality of life through increased access to safe water, good hygiene and sanitation through sinking boreholes and raising awareness on proper hygiene practices in the targeted communities
